Tuesday Reading: Exodus 23:1-3

Key Verse: Exodus 23:2
2  You shall not follow a multitude to do evil. Neither shall you speak in a cause in order to follow many in order to wrest judgment.

Devotion:
It is so easy just to go with the majority so that you can fit in with them. It is so easy to turn a blind eye just to keep people happy. It is so easy to take sides with the weak or poor just to put down the strong or rich. But that has never been what God wanted in this world and it is certainly not what we should be doing. Right from the time when God saw that man was taking sides just to keep the majority happy He has continued to remind us that we should be seeking the truth and not just the majority.

We all remember the 9th commandment because we are taught it from an early age but as we are taught that we also observe those same people who teach us doing things which may surprise us. We have all been there ourselves, by telling people they should not do things only to go and bend the rules a few minutes or hours later to satisfy ourselves. Jesus’ description of people who did such was quite severe; ‘backbiters’ and ‘vipers’. Do we really think that we should be able to get away with that just because we think we are right?

God’s Word is the truth. He is Just and Holy. Nothing that we do can ever set what is right to be wrong and nothing that we do wrong, no matter how many times, will ever make it right! So just because we have done something wrong enough times to make it seem normal does not make it right. Just because society is turning a blind eye to certain things does not make those things right. God’s Law still stand and it will always stand. Trying to live a lie will simply not work when we have to face Christ. Living that lie may work for a while on earth but it stops here because no lies will ever be allowed into heaven. We need to uphold Christ’s Laws. We need to follow on in His Holy example. We need to be honest!

Points to Ponder:
How many times have you supported the weak instead of the right?

Are you still lying to yourself?
