Friday Reading: Matthew 13:18-19

Key Verse: Matthew 13:19
19  When anyone hears the Word of the kingdom and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and catches away that which was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown by the wayside.

Devotion:
Because we have ready access to God’s Word and we have so many ways in which we can learn about Him, do you think it is right to keep that information to ourselves? If you were able to grow a crop of potatoes and were not able to eat as many as you have grown, would you simply let the excess go to waste? We like to share things with people because we know it makes us and them feel good. Why then should we hold back on the most precious gift of all, God’s love?

We don’t have to read of the parable of the sower to find out what is being said and then to analyse it before we tell others about it – we can use it as we read it to spread the gospel. We don’t have to be scholars and we certainly don’t have to have degrees in order to tell others about God. Jesus grew up as a carpenter which was a fair trade but certainly not on the top rung of society. Why then should we think that we have to be on that top rung before we speak to others about God?

We work against an enemy who is willing and able to use anything and anyone to try to tempt us away from God’s word. As he does that he will also try to trip us up and frighten us so that we do not share the gospel with others... that is his plan, to limit the spread of the truth so that he can spread his own lies just like he did in the Garden of Eden with the first two humans! When we don’t fully understand God’s word we need people to turn to so that we can have things explained. Some people are just starting out and they know less than us – so why not spread a little happiness by telling them how much God mean to you!

Points to Ponder:
Do you know God?

Do you tell others you know Him?
