Friday Reading: Matthew 7:15-20
Key Verse: Matthew 7:16
16 You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?
Devotion:
It is amazing at this time of year to see so many things beginning to bring forth life around us; from the trees bringing new growth and beginnings of fruit to the fields that now have crops filling out. We could say that we have had a hand in many things by doing the gardening and watering and caring but without that spark of life that God gives into each and every thing we would have nothing. His promise to deliver harvests until the end of time continues on around us. But it is not the harvest of fruit and crops that I want to remind you of today but your own harvest.
No I’m not talking about the things you grow at home but what you bring spiritually to the field of life. Each one of us is like a plant in the field of life and each one of us is going to bring forward a crop or fruit of some kind. We continue to do this throughout our lives and we continue to grow with each thing we bring forward. What is feeding us? Who is feeding us? God is. People are. You are.
God supplies everything that we need in our lives to grow. He continues to supply His Word, life, families, friends and even the beauty that surrounds us. He does this all so that we are in the best position possible to grow as much as we can. Now we don’t see plants getting up out of the field and walking off into the shade for a rest, but that is what we seem to do many times in our lives; we leave the field that God has prepared for us to try and find a better place by ourselves. God is the one who knows best and He knows what we need to grow. If we allow Him to work in our lives then we will bring forward all the best things that He has prepared for us to do. If we try to go it alone or follow others then we have to be prepared to not bring forward the best but to also allow others to see that we have left God out of our lives! If you want to bloom as best as you can, then you need God’s provision in your life. Depend on Him! Allow others to see your faith as you grow in Christ!
Points to Ponder:
What do you need in life?
What has God given you today?
