Sunday Reading: Matthew 28:1-10
Key Verse: Matthew 28:6
6 He is not here, for He has risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
Devotion:
HE HAS RISEN!
“What can I say? I am speechless and yet don’t want to stop talking about it. Does that make sense at all? Well, I now know that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God because no other person could ever make Himself come back to life! This reporter is now a firm believer in Jesus Christ!”
Can you imagine the excitement, confusion, fear and great joy all at the same time when people started to find out that Jesus had risen from the grave? It is a real shock when someone very close to you does die and no matter how much you want it not to be true, the truth will sit very hard when it is someone that you love very dearly. That certainty and finality of the situation does not creep in but lunges at you like a freight train. To have that feeling turned upside down and shaken by someone telling you that that person had come back to life must have been earth shattering!
But this was not just hearsay but a fact; Jesus was alive again and was to be seen by many many people so that they could tell us of the wonderful news that Jesus Christ had defeated death for us, not just because He is God but because He wanted us to be able to be forgiven for our sins. He wanted to pay for our sin debt by giving Himself up as the Lamb of God so that His death would be accepted for our sins.
Today we can all join together knowing that Christ gave His life for us. We can all know that Christ is our Saviour. We can all know that Christ wants us to be forgiven... All we need do is to bring our sins before Christ and ask for His personal forgiveness – because He personally gave His life for us!
Points to Ponder:
Do you know that you have sinned?
Do you believe that Christ died for you?
