Wednesday Reading: Psalms 119 161-164
Key Verse: Psalms 119 164
164 I praise You seven times a day because of Your righteous judgments.
Devotion:
As we move into a new government here in the UK we have to wonder whether we have people in power who will respect God’s Word. When we read through His Word we can see how people in the past have moved away or deviated from it and have had to pay the price for disobeying God. I would not like to think that we have a person in power who will pull the country further away from God like some of the wayward kings in our Old Testaments...
If we truly stand in awe of God’s Word then we will uphold His word and endure the wrath of man knowing that the wrath of God is something we would never want to face! One of the simplest ways of telling whether someone is following God’s Law is whether they are telling a lie or not. I know it sounds oversimplified and we will always say that we cannot put a blanket statement on something like this but this is the root of whether people are standing in awe of God’s Word or not. If they do not care for God’s Word then they will not care about telling lies. If they don’t care about telling lies then they will be found out. It may not be up to us to judge people but we can certainly tell when they are trying to pull the wool over our eyes...
In this passage the psalmist tells us that he hates lying but loves God’s Law. If we were all to take that sort of attitude then we would all be a whole lot better off! Imagine being able to trust anyone instead of having to bite your lip and see what happens! If we want to show people that we do uphold God’s Law then the first thing we need to do is to make sure others can know that we will tell the truth and that we will uphold God’s Law in preference to someone else’s laws. It is not easy because God tells us that we do need to obey those in command so many a time it will come down to us having to make a decision as to what is right... Following God’s Word is the one true way of finding out what to do.
Points to Ponder:
Who do you follow?
Are you trusting God’s Law?
