Monday Reading: Romans 12:2
Key Verse: Romans 12:2
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, in order to prove by you what is that good and pleasing and perfect will of God.
Devotion:
This is one of those verses that you hear a lot and probably cast aside because you have heard it so many time and think you know what people are going to say when they quote it. Well, that is just one of our problems... We get so used to hearing the same verses again that we start to switch off and think of other things when someone starts to talk about it – how wrong can we be!
God’s Word is something that we need to treasure and something that we need to continue to study. It is no good just recounting various verses and hoping that something will eventually stick because that is just the same as cramming before an exam – you learn enough to get through the exam and then promptly forget everything you have learned. That is not the attitude that we need to have with God because He knows what is going through your mind so fooling Him in any way is not an option. Cramming for an exam may well get you through school but it is not going to get you through heaven’s gates...
God wants each one of us to be honest with Him. It is not the fact that we try to hide things from Him but the simple fact that we cannot hide things from Him that we need to remember. We need to know that if we try to hide things we are just telling a lie to His face. That is the attitude that we have to get round; one that we seem to grow up with and learn from an early age. When we get to know Christ we must realise that we are no longer enslaved by the ways of the world, we have been set free from those lies and corruption. No longer do we have to conform to those ways because we now know that God knows all about those ways. We also know that it is Christ who wants to free us from those ways and is willing to teach and guide us all the way. Trusting in God means a whole lot more than just saying “I do”. Trusting in God means a daily humble and honest walk with Him.
Points to Ponder:
Are you still doing the same old things?
Will you let Christ set you free?
