Friday Reading: Deuteronomy 29:29

Key Verse: Deuteronomy 29:29
29  The secret things belong to Jehovah our God, but the revealed things belong to us and to our sons forever, so that we may do all the words of this Law.

Devotion:
There are things that we will never know because God alone is the one in charge of such things, but as soon as He wants to reveal them to us then we will be the ones that know. We do not know when Christ is going to return, but we will one day. We do not know what is going to happen to us tomorrow, but God knows right now, and we will know by tomorrow. When we have seen or experienced something those memories are then ours to keep for eternity, though as we grow older our brains do seem a might fickle and tend to put some things aside and then forget where we put them! But God never forgets.

When God was directing the Children of Israel in the desert and was preparing them for their final entry into the “land the flows with milk and honey” He wanted to make sure that there was no illusions about what He required from them. Our Old Testament is full of instructions in life for them to follow so that they could try to walk with Him. But as they found out, no matter how grave a warning they were given, trying to walk with God by yourself is an impossibility. He did give them ways of redeeming themselves but they too got forgotten because men did not want to admit to what they did wrong. There is nothing different today other than the fact that we now live in a time of grace.

God know just how rotten we can be and how much we can corrupt our world and our fellow people, and yet He was willing to give us a way of redeeming ourselves before we even got there! He knows what lies ahead, we have to wait until we have been there before we know. But the more that we do experience the more that we should be able to see what we do wrong – if only we knew the difference between that which is right and that which is wrong! But we do know, we just don’t like to admit to it otherwise we then have to believe in God. That is all He wants of us; to believe in Him.

Points to Ponder:
Do you know what God wants of you?

Do you know God’s Word enough to find the answers?
