Wednesday Reading: Revelations 4 1-2
Key Verse: Revelations 4 1
1 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.
Devotion:
Many times we think of things to come as an unknown. We think that God has not told us about what lies ahead. We then start to search for ways or means in which we can see what is going to happen in the future. But in reality, God has given us all we need to know – we just don’t read about it and listen to what He is saying to us! The book of Revelations is at the end of our bibles because it is a book about what is still to happen in the future. God has not given us riddles that we have to solve but rather showed John the truth so that he could write is down for us to read about.
Most people take one look at the book of Revelations and think that it is all too hard to understand. We don’t need to understand it all because John was shown enough to allow us to stand firmly on our faith. I’m sure John would have seen it as fact thereafter rather than as having faith but he still had to exercise faith in believing that what God had shown him was going to happen. God does not want us to come to Him because we have been told to. God wants us to come to Him in faith, believing that what He has said will happen, trusting in His Word.
We will continue to be bombarded with people giving us all sorts of reasons to seek other things instead of God. We will continue to have people tell us that there is no God because of the terrible things that happen in our lifetime. We will be mocked for believing in God. We may even be told that it is against the law... But in the seven years of tribulation that will follow us being taken to heaven, all men on earth will have to face far worse things for believing. Many will blame God. Many will seek someone else. But that does not change the truth... Believing in the truth is still a step of faith even though we are told so much in our bibles.
Points to Ponder:
What do you find hard to understand?
Have you asked God lately?
