Saturday Reading: 2 Corinthians 13 11
Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 13 11
11 Finally, brothers, rejoice. Perfect yourselves; encourage yourselves; mind the same thing; be at peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.
Devotion:
Another week comes to a close and another week will shortly be starting; a new week, a new start, one to look forward to. No matter how much we get involved in each week, the next week is always going to be a new week and with that new week will come new opportunities and new ways in which we can glorify God. But as each week goes by you begin to see how much more can be achieved when we work together with others. By trying to do it all yourself or trying to do all the work you will find that your week may well fizzle out at the end because you have done so much and need even more rest. By walking hand in hand with someone to share your work you will find that you still have the energy at the end of the week to continue on!
In order to accomplish the most we often do have to admit first that we cannot manage alone and ask someone for help. You will be surprised at the number of people that will be willing to help you out; you need but ask. But that brings on another dilemma for us because we don’t always like to admit we are weak or that we need help. God did not make us all like Samson who could achieve so much by himself. God has made us to survive together and not alone; we do work better as a team.
But the best part about helping other Christians is the love and joy that we are able to experience simply by lending a hand when it is needed. God gives us more than just the joy of being able to help someone; He gives us a genuine love for those people too. When Christ said that we must love our neighbour as ourselves He was surely intimating that we need to be there for others as well as being able to help them out. When we find things tough or hard going, that is the time when we should be able to turn to our fellow Christians and accept the help that they wish to give us – they may already be waiting for you to ask.
Points to Ponder:
Do you like helping others?
When was the last time you offered help to Christ’s servants?
